Deraphu to Dolma-La pass – Gaurikunda – Zutulphu Monastery: About 22 Kms. Is one of longest, difficult and important day of kailash journey. Today, you cross 5630m. altitude over Dolma-La pass and Gauri Kunda darshan. Uphill a downhill walk takes almost 10 to 11 hours.

Parikrama day 3 :

Zutulphu Monastery to Chongdo- Darchen: About 12 kilometer to darchen, takes about 5 hours. But, now a day most people end their kora from Chongdo before 4 kilometers from Darchen and take the drive.

Importance of Mansarovar Lake and the holy Bath.

Thus, one full kora pilgrimage around the lake represented a single turning of the wheel, with all of the benefits that apply. The pilgrimage route, while hitting all eight gompas along the way, is about 64 miles long and takes two to four days to complete. If one just circumambulates around the shores of the lake, it is about 54 miles. Some Buddhists believed that the lake was identical to the legendary Anotatta Lake, where the Buddha’s mother dreamt she had bathed and saw a vision of the Buddha appearing from the direction Kailash on a white elephant before he was born. There are several other Buddhist legends of the lake as well.

According to Jainism – The Lake is said to be associated with Lord Shree Rishabhdev, the first Tirthankara. Ashtapad Mountain, located close to Mt Kailash, is regarded as the place where Lord Rishabhdevji with his disciples attained Nirvana (Moksh).
